Synergy: a dialogue in art & design

WDS

The World Design Summit Exhibition, Synergy: a dialogue in art & design, aims to challenge designers of various fields to reflect on their creative process, design strategies and decision making that goes into their work. In order to broaden the scope of reflection and welcome discussion, esteemed artists have been carefully selected to represent the six themes of the event.

Synergy: a dialogue in art & design appeals to the cooperation of artists and designers, through their creative work and thought, and joins them together in a collaborative effort to instigate a movement of change in the world.

In honour of the celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary, six international designers are paired with six Canadian artists who exemplify the creativity, diversity and insight Canada has to offer. Looking towards the future, ERISMA and the World Design Summit are proud to present local artwork from internationally renowned artists. The exceptionally thought-provoking artworks bridge a gap between world issues and design solutions. They provide a middle ground that mediates and prompts further reflection and creative insight.

Art for change will promote and facilitate design for change, one innovation at a time. Art delves deeper, exposing layers of complexity hidden beneath the surface of world issues. Speaking to human faculties such as memory, experience, sympathy and imagination art pushes the boundaries of ingenuity. Art facilitates a dialogue that expands the scope of exchange between designers and contemporary problems. Every design can become a solution to a world issue. Art investigates, questions and challenges the gravity of these issues and their repercussions, what lies at their core, and how they will evolve over time. The artist looks to society and asks questions. Speaking in a universal visual language, the works enable global participation and international synergy. Taking place in the Palais de Congres alongside 30,000 designers, they look to designers to engage in the conversation, propose solutions and change the world, one design at a time.

October 17th-20th, 2017 at Palais de Congres, Montreal in collaboration with ERISMA, co-curated by Kimberly Glassman and Kevin Poitras.
